Concerts in an Intimate Setting in Carmichael
Please join us January 6th, when we start our eighth year hosting house concerts at Theater 5150 by welcoming The Band Hayez! Lead by the vocals of Alicia K. Huff, Hayez graduated from the gospel music of the local churches where the members of the band met into a superb, polished unit delivering a soulful blend of Jazz, R & B, and Hip Hop. I first heard them opening for The Gold Souls at The Torch Club a few years back, was knocked out, and have kept them on my radar ever since. This will be their first visit and we’re really looking forward to it!

One year from the day of her last visit, Jessica Malone and her band return to Theater 5150 and we couldn’t be more pleased! Jessica and her band are as good as they get. She is an award-winning singer, songwriter and composer whose genre-defying music ranges from songbird confessional to rambunctious & rollicking full-band efforts and incorporates elements of Americana, Bluegrass, Folk, Rock, and even some hints of Jazz in a sometimes smooth, sometimes gritty, brew. She’s one of the best songwriters, and nicest human beings, we’ve had the pleasure to have met. She’s one of our all-time favorites! Every show she does here sells out, so this is one to keep an eye on.

Solabel is a collective of some of area’s the top jazz, folk, bluegrass and gospel musicians, including members of local heroes Dear Darling, and we jumped at the rare opportunity to host them all on the same stage at Theater 5150. They recently released their second full length album, “City of Trees,” which was made possible by an arts grant and is what Sacramento might say if it could speak, from the anger and recrimination of “Finish the Job” and “You Can’t Camp There,” the call to activism of “Fight,” and the bittersweet, gorgeous, title track, it’s a brilliant meditation on community, equity and peace. This show will sell out, so keep a watchful eye on it.

As soon as JoDavi (Joshua David Washington) and his amazing band and mini choir finished their show the first time they performed here, I started scheming to get them back for another night of his fantastic “Symphonic Soul.” JoDavi is a singer, songwriter, conductor and arranger extraordinaire who has basically created his own genre, which incorporates elements of funk, soul, reggae and R&B in lush, orchestral arrangements. His compositions bring to mind Earth, Wind and Fire, The Commodores, and The Fifth Dimension, but in a way all his own. He founded Current Personae, the Stockton music collective that could best be described as giant soul orchestra, led piano and string “chamber soul” ensembles, and collaborated with vocalists and instrumentalists too numerous to mention. He has over a dozen albums to his credit. We’re in for another phenomenal night!

Please join us June 15th, when we get to welcome back Hans! And The Hot Mess after way too long of an absence! Hans is a Sacramento legend. Equally known for fronting Soul and R&B juggernaut Joy & Madness, Hans' music with The Hot Mess is melodic and smartly crafted. I’ve described it as "Ben Harper meets The Beatles," but his style is very much his own, instantly recognizable to those fortunate enough to experience what the Mess does best, which is get people happily humming, singing along and dancing. They’re one of our favorites. Hans, Nyxi, Josh, and Tony bring it every night and this will be no exception!

Please join us July 20th, when we welcome Daniela Mars to Theater 5150! Daniela is a Brazilian flutist raised in Japan, South Korea, Brazil and England. She is an inspiring soloist, composer, educator, and social media persona, enjoying a rich artistic life driven by a love of nature and travel. From the deepest caves of Vietnam to the mountains and waterfalls of her homeland in Brazil, Daniela loves to make music with her flutes and be immersed and connected with the natural world. What intrigued us the most about her music is her interest in extended flute techniques and her performances with alto, bass, and contrabass flutes, instruments not often heard in concert or on recording. She is a gifted composer and instrumentalist whose solo works and collaborations have been performed worldwide. This promises to be an intimate and interesting evening of gorgeous modern and classical music.
